Quick Examples
What is a QR Code?
A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that can store various types of information, from simple text and URLs to contact details and WiFi credentials. Originally developed in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking automotive parts, QR codes have become ubiquitous in modern digital life.
Unlike traditional barcodes that only store information horizontally, QR codes store data both horizontally and vertically, allowing them to hold significantly more information. They can be scanned quickly using a smartphone camera, making them an efficient bridge between physical and digital content. With built-in error correction, QR codes can still be read even if partially damaged or obscured.

Error Correction Levels Explained
Low (L) - 7% Recovery
Best for clean environments where the QR code is unlikely to be damaged. Allows for the smallest physical size while encoding the same amount of data. Ideal for digital displays or protected printed materials.
Medium (M) - 15% Recovery
The recommended default for most applications. Provides a good balance between data capacity and error resilience. Suitable for business cards, flyers, and general marketing materials.
Quartile (Q) - 25% Recovery
Higher redundancy for codes that might be damaged or need a logo overlay in the center. Use for outdoor applications, products, or anywhere wear and tear is expected.
High (H) - 30% Recovery
Maximum error correction for harsh environments or when artistic modifications are needed. The QR code remains scannable even with significant damage. Best for industrial applications or creative designs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes (like those generated by this tool) never expire. They contain the actual data encoded in the image itself. However, if the QR code links to a website, that website needs to remain active. Dynamic QR codes created by paid services may expire based on your subscription.
What's the maximum data capacity of a QR code?
QR codes can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 7,089 numeric characters. However, practical limits are lower - aim for under 300 characters for optimal scanning reliability. For URLs, consider using a URL shortener for long links.
Can I edit a QR code after creating it?
Static QR codes (created with this tool) cannot be edited once generated. If you need to change the destination, you'll need to create a new QR code. For editable QR codes, consider using dynamic QR code services that allow you to update the destination URL without changing the code itself.
How can I test if my QR code works?
Simply open your smartphone's camera app and point it at the QR code displayed on your screen. Most modern phones will automatically recognize and display a notification to open the link. Test on multiple devices and from different distances to ensure reliability.
What size should I print my QR code?
A minimum size of 2 x 2 cm (0.8 x 0.8 inches) is recommended for business cards. For posters or signs viewed from a distance, use at least 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches). The general rule is: the farther the scanning distance, the larger the QR code should be. Always test from your expected scanning distance.
Can I generate multiple QR codes at once?
Absolutely! Use our Batch Mode feature. Simply click "Show" in the Batch Generate section, paste multiple URLs or text entries (one per line), and we'll generate all QR codes at once and package them in a convenient ZIP file for download. Perfect for events, product catalogs, or bulk campaigns.
